Understanding Spin Variables

SPIN RATE
Spin rate (backspin, not forward spin) has a major influence on the height and distance of a shot. Spin is created through your clubhead speed and spin loft (direction clubhead is moving and the face orientation at the point of impact).

SPIN AXIS
Let’s use an airplane as an example for spin axis. If the wings of an airplane are parallel to the ground, this would represent a zero spin axis and the plane would fly straight. If the wings were tilted to the left (right wing higher than left wing), this would represent a negative spin axis and the plane would tilt to the left. And the opposite holds true if the wings are tilted to the right.
