UNDERSTANDING YOUR MUSCLES – HOW THEY ARE CREATED
Muscles are created by the workouts that we do. Muscles are made up of fibers, lots and lots of them. Based on what we are asking our muscles to do, the command center— the Central Nervous System—will send the appropriate signals to get the job done. For example, if you’re simply picking up a marker that fell on the floor, that’s not going to require a large recruitment of muscle fibers.
But if you are pushing a heavy sled up a hill, you better believe the CNS is going to call all the troops to get in on this action to help you get the job done. So the more we call on the large muscle units, the more we are training the Type II muscles. But again, we need to specifically train for this with strategy and customization based on your goals and your body.
WHAT DOES PULLING A SLED HAVE TO DO WITH GOLF?
Training outside of golf with intensity—exerting our muscles with a mix of speed and strength—trains our Central Nervous System to fire faster and recruit more muscle fibers. It doesn’t matter what sport, as long as you are training the motor units
